ER11 collet tray

A 3D printed openGrid tray that holds a full set of ER11 collets and nuts, with laser engraved labels.

My ER11 collets lived loose in a bag, and finding the right size meant reading the tiny stamped numbers on each one. This tray gives every collet its own labelled spot, and it snaps onto an openGrid board so it stays put in the drawer.

The tray

  • 15 collet pockets in a 5 × 3 grid: 1–7 mm in half millimetre steps, plus 1/8” and 1/4”.
  • Each pocket matches the ER taper (8° half angle), so the collet sits taper down with about 2 mm standing proud to grab. A through hole at the bottom lets chips fall out.
  • A front row holds 4 collet nuts thread side down over a centring post. The recess takes both 16 mm round and 17 mm hex ER11 nuts.
  • The footprint is 4 × 4 openGrid cells. The plugs underneath work in both openGrid Full and Lite boards.

The model is parametric OpenSCAD, so the pocket size, grid layout and number of nuts are all variables at the top of the file. Print the two fit tests first and tune seat_dia. If the plugs are too tight in the openGrid board, raise plug_clear to 0.05–0.1 mm.

Labels

The labels are engraved straight into the PLA with a 2 W IR laser engraver at 55% power and 300 mm/s. Those settings were tuned for Bambu Lab Dark Blue Matte PLA, so other colors will likely need their own. The SVG lines up with the printed tray: the blue outline and circles are for alignment only, so set that layer to no output and engrave just the black text.
